What is a BHAG?
- BHAG stands for "Big Hairy Audacious Goal." A term created by Jim Collins in his book "Built To Last."
- BHAG is a goal you set for yourself OR a group. This goal may not be achieved the next day but rather over an extended period of time. A BHAG may sometimes seem crazy OR extreme, however it allows you to work towards something big.
Four Steps to work towards your BHAG:
- Step 1: Write down your BHAG.
- Step 2: Share your BHAG with others (friends, family, mentors, etc.)
- Step 3: Plan well. Practice well. Prepare well.
- Step 4: Start working towards achieving your BHAG.

My BHAG is to go to Africa on a mission trip and change at least one persons life. :) GIVE GOD ALL THE GLORY! ~Audrey Smith
ReplyDeleteMy BHAG is to open my own skateshop someday and to stay involved in the community and keep kids off the streets and out of trouble!(:
ReplyDeleteComplete the writing, laying out, drawing, coloring, web-publishing and physical publishing of a comic book. That is my BHAG.
ReplyDeleteMy BHAG is to someday go on a mission trip to Belize. It's always been a dream of mine to go there and I will be praying that someday it comes true, but if not I'll know that God didn't want me to go there.

My BHAG is to complete a triathlon someday...all while coping with a rare genetic disease. First stop is completing my second half marathon on Sept. 9! I hope my journey to my BHAG inspires other people to achieve their goals :)
ReplyDeleteMy BHAG has seven layers, like bean dip or dream bars.
ReplyDelete1. buy an abandoned warehouse or church or Victorian house in a part of the city that became "inner city" when the big box stores became neighbors
2. set up a community center/gallery/coffee shop/bakery in the lower level
3. invite neighbors to take ownership of and invest in this place
4. set up an internship program where college students live in rooms upstairs or the basement
5. partner with a college to offer credit in either social work or public policy
6. students will develop their own blueprint for community engagement as part of the internship program
7. students and community members will participate in local and international outreach (host town hall meetings, serve in city community gardens, and mission trips).
Whew. Good to get that out.
Probably my biggest regret from my time as a student at Northwestern was never going on a mission trip/SSP. Now that I'm an employee at NWC, I have gone on an SSP as a faculty/staff leader (to Mississippi). My BHAG? To go on a mission trip overseas. I have never been outside of North America. . .and I feel God's call to explore his world. . .change lives. . .and allow HIS spirit to work in my heart so that my life can be changed by others.
ReplyDeleteI hope to start this journey by organizing a soccer mission trip to Brazil with the men's soccer team from Northwestern in the spring of 2013.
My BHAG is to adopt a deaf child. Although I think that it is more God's goal for me as I find myself wondering how I (me???) am worthy or capable of such an undertaking.
